The buzz about the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
